INFORMATION ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

Our school is a Catholic Primary School in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham with two forms per year group. St. Joseph’s Catholic Primary School is a popular school. We currently have 418 children on roll. It serves the local Catholic community, most of whom attend the Parish Church of the Holy Family.

Our Mission Statement is: ‘Each one of us has been created by God for a special purpose and is therefore uniquely special. Together we pray, grow and learn in the footsteps of Jesus.’

At this school, the percentage of pupils assessed with having special educational needs is 18%, below expected averages. The number of pupils from minority ethnic backgrounds has risen significantly over the last few years. The number of children who are entitled to free school meals is below the national average.

As a Catholic school, we serve the children of the Parish rather than the local neighbourhood. The commitment of the entire school community has a positive effect on the work of the school. The  mission statement is reflected in the general life of the school.

Parental involvement ensures that the school is helped with listening to pupils read and accompanying pupils on educational visits. The Head of School Forum meets once a term and gives interested parents an opportunity to discuss the work of the school or any other issues.

The school is fully staffed with 16 full time class teachers, an Executive Headteacher, a Headteacher and two Assistant Heads as well as 1 part time teacher. Currently, there are no mixed age classes.

The school is well maintained, having 14 classrooms and a Nursery, all ICT equipped.  Our newer building includes a modern Computing suite and designated Year 6 area.
